Are we close to seeing the first sneak peak of the new NFT Worlds game engine?!
It seems like a real possibility that we will be seeing an early alpha sneak peak of the new game engine in late February to early March – as often hinted at by ArkDev himself.

NFT Worlds Game Engine Sneak Peak
A late-February to early-March sneak peek has been teased for a few weeks now and the hinting keeps getting stronger. Something is in store for the world holders very soon.
As we inch closer to getting our first glimpse of the work the NFT Worlds team has been putting into the new game engine, no one can know for sure what to expect – but that doesn’t stop anyone from speculating.
Perhaps it’s simple game logic or a showcase of the physics engine they’ve been building – or we may possibly see actual gameplay footage with core mechanics we’ve come to love from Minecraft.
It’s been about 7 months since Minecraft banned NFTs from their platform, and since then the team has been hard focused on building the new game engine with a team that consists of 7 full-time developers.
The development of the engine has also been in tandem with the development of MetaFab, an end-to-end blockchain infrastructure for Web3 developers to seamlessly integrate blockchain functionalities into their games.
Built in Rust
The new NFT Worlds game engine is being built from scratch with Rust, the programming language – not the game with naked people and guns.
Rust is a systems programming language that was first introduced in 2010. It is designed to be fast, efficient, and safe, making it an ideal choice for building a wide range of applications, including games.
One of the main reasons why Rust is well-suited for game development is its performance. Rust’s design allows it to produce very fast and efficient code, which can be critical for games that require real-time rendering, physics simulations, and other computationally intensive tasks.
Another advantage of Rust is it’s memory safety features. Rust’s ownership and borrowing system help ensure that developers write code that is free of common memory-related errors such as null pointer dereferences and buffer overflows. This can help make games more stable and less prone to crashes.
In addition, Rust’s strict typing and advanced error handling features can help make code more maintainable and easier to debug, which can be particularly important in large game development projects. Rust’s focus on performance, safety, and maintainability has made it increasingly popular among game developers, especially for building game engines and other low-level systems.
Overall, Rust’s combination of performance, safety, and maintainability make it a great choice for game development, particularly for building game engines, tools, and other low-level systems that require fast and efficient code.
Popular Games and Game Engines built with Rust
Some popular games and game engines built with Rust include:
- Amethyst Engine – The Amethyst Engine is a free and open-source game engine written in Rust that is designed to provide a powerful and flexible toolset for building games.
- Bevy – Bevy is a free and open-source game engine built in Rust, designed to be easy to use, modular, and highly performant. It is a 2D and 3D game engine that provides developers with a variety of tools and libraries to create games for desktop, mobile, and the web.
- Veloren – Veloren is an open-world, multiplayer RPG that is currently under development. It is being built using Rust and the Amethyst game engine.
Rust seems like a perfect fit for the new NFT Worlds engine. Ark has said that building with Rust allows for a lot more optimization than Minecraft could offer, and has stated in his opinion that Java was never the right choice for Minecraft in the first place.
NFT Worlds Art Palette Teasers
In September 2022, the NFT Worlds team teased some sample art palettes for the new game. After some initial feedback from the community, they revised and announced these item palettes as well as a mob preview:
There has not been much teased as far as art goes since that announcement. However, the NFT Worlds Items collection launched via a lootbox drop on January 30th, 2022.
You can view all the drops from the Holiday Lootbox (1st Edition) at the Loot Center or the Items Database.
Patience is a virtue
I have been itching to see the new game engine as much as the next person, but patience is key here. The NFT Worlds team has always stood firmly by creating quality products, even if that means taking extra time to do it.
Game development historically takes A LOT of time, and they have stated they are well ahead of schedule, so that is great news.
I don’t think it will be too much longer before we start seeing some previews of all the work they’ve been putting in.
And I can wait.
